As the the Holy Spirit comes upon the disciples, the people hear them declaring the works of God in their own native language. To explain this event, Peter is empowered to deliver a sermon about the resurrected Christ that leads to the conversion of 3,000 listeners. In his sermon Peter builds upon Jesus’ fulfillment of several Old Testament passages and points his listeners to the fact of the empty tomb to convict them that Jesus is both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36).
